Alex Spielman


Eagles United was founded by Alex Spielman in 2016. Spielman created Eagles United after spending summer of 2015 at Kingdom Hoops under former Iowa State player Jake Sullivan. Before joining Kingdom Hoops Spielman served as an assistant coach at AIB College of Business in the men’s program during the 2014-2015 season. Prior to coming to AIB, the program was 4-78 in their first three years of existence. Spielman helped guide AIB to a 19-10 record (receiving national votes in NAIA Division II).Spielman graduated from Ballard high school in Huxley, Iowa in 2007. He signed his letter of intent to play basketball and run track at the University of South Dakota. Spielman completed his Masters degree in Organizational Leadership at Bethel University in St. Paul (2014). Spielman lives in Spencer, Iowa with his daughter Haley.

Kory Petzenhauser – Director Of Operations – is in his 3rd year with the Eagles United program and just completed his 8th year as the head boys basketball coach at Spencer High School.  During his tenure, Coach Petzenhauser has coached 13 All Conference selections and has had 4 players continue their playing careers at the college level.  Prior to arriving at Spencer, Coach Petzenhauser was an assistant with the girls program at Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City. In his only season on staff, he helped lead the Crusaders to a 26-1 record and the 2010 Class 3A state championship. After graduation from Southern Calhoun High School, Coach Petzenhauser accepted a scholarship to play at Division I Drake University in Des Moines.  After 3 years at the Missouri Valley Conference school, he transferred to the University of South Dakota where he was a member of the North Central Conference championship team which qualified for the NCAA Division II national tournament. A native of Lake City, IA, coach Petzenhauser will be coaching both boys and girls teams for Eagles United.  He lives in Spencer, IA with his wife Kelly, daughter Keeley, and son Karter.

John Walz – Camp Director – is in his 2nd year with Eagles United Program. He spent 4 years as the assistant coach and nine years as the head boys basketball coach at Spirit Lake High School. He came to Spirit Lake from Iowa Lakes Community College where he served as the assistant basketball coach and head baseball coach. Coach Walz was also an assistant at Ames High School for five years winning the State Championship in 1991 with now Chicago Bulls Coach Fred Hoiberg. Prior to his coaching experience, Coach Walz spent two seasons as a manager for the Iowa State Cyclones under the late Coach Johnny Orr. Coach John Walz will be coaching 5th grade boys (Spencer) for Eagles United. A native of Estherville, IA, coach Walz now lives in Spirit Lake with his daughter Morgan, and sons J.P. and Wesley.

Coach Marc Bruning – is in his second year with the Eagles United program. He has coached basketball at a variety of levels for 23 years. The past 17 years he has been an assistant with the Spencer Tiger Girl’s basketball program.  He was a part of Spencer’s lone conference title during the 2008-2009 season. During this time Spencer also appeared in 10 Regional Finals and 4 State tournaments, and produced 7 All-State players. This was done at the 3A and 4A levels. A native of Spencer, IA, coach Bruning will be coaching both boys and girls teams for Eagles United. He lives in Spencer, IA with his daughters Mackenzie, Avery, and son Cael.\
